The Jabberwock Season was dedicated to Mrs. Alice Outlaw.
Members of the Nashville Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter (NMAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Fortitude Foundation, Inc. presented their Miss Jabberwock Gala the evening of April 6 at Christ Church-Watson Hall in Nashville.
Ten beautiful young ladies vying for the title of Miss Jabberwock captivated the audience as they performed with grace and style to the Jabberwock theme ‘Debut of the Real Dream Girls.’
The entire Jabberwock Season was dedicated to a ‘True Dream Girl,’ Alice Outlaw. Mrs. Outlaw has been a Delta more than 50 years, and a member of the Nashville Metropolitan Alumnae since 1973.
The emcees for the occasion were Sharon Hurt, CEO, JUMP and Adrian (AG) Granderson, local radio host and co-owner of Jazz and Jokes, Nashville. The Hella Temple #105 served as the ushers for this occasion.
Miss Melondria Osborne was crowned Miss Jabberwock 2013. She is the daughter of Dariton and Melody Osborne. Melondria, a junior at Hume Fogg High School, received the 2010 History Student of the Year Award. She is a member of Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society for Math, a member of the debate team, 2010 Community A.L.E.R.T., and one of MNPS’ top student award recipients. Melondra was also recognized as one of the top five debaters in 2011-12. She is an active participant in the community and her church, Ebenezer Community Church. Activities include liturgical dance, plays, and Black history speeches. Melondria says her dream is “to become a defense attorney.”
The first and second runner-ups were Victoria Hill and Ke’Arra Allen.
Miss Hill, the First Runner-Up, is the daughter of Michael and Sherita Hill. Victoria is a sophomore at Hillsboro High School where she is a member of Bridging the Gap and the National Honor Society. Her community and church (Living Word Community Church) activities include serving as a volunteer at Room at the Inn and a member of the Youth Choir. Victoria says her dream is to become “a fashion designer and to start an international design fashion business.”
Miss Allen is the daughter of Nicole and Charron Allen, Sr. Ke’Arra is an eighth grader at Kipp Academy where she is a member of the school choir and the cheerleader squad. Her community and church activities include the Youth Choir, Youth Ushers, Praise Ministry and College Ministry at Temple Church. She is also the captain of the Cheerleading Squad for the Bordeaux Eagles. Ke’Arra says that her “dream is to become an educator. She wants to teach others.”
The other contestants included: Miss Jerilyn Elizabeth Evans, daughter of Alisa Johnson-Evans and Jake P. Evans, is a freshman at Summit High School in Spring Hill, Tenn.; Miss De’Ja Gooch, daughter of Thaddeus and Tenyelle Gooch, is a freshman at Hume Fogg High School; Miss Dallisa Kilcrease, daughter of Sean and Dallisa A. Kilcrease, is a senior at Whites Creeks High School; Miss Elizabeth Kimbrough, daughter of Robin and Adric Kimbrough, is an eighth grader at Overbrook School; Miss Cierra McLemore, daughter of Celica McLemore and great niece of Emma Booker, is a senior at Centennial High School in Franklin, Tenn.; Miss Jamila Ray, daughter of Robert and Pamela Ray, is a junior at East Literature Magnet School; Miss Stephanie Wade, daughter of Steven and Tiffany Wade, is a freshman at Hillsboro High School.
Other awards of recognition were presented to: Miss Congeniality, Miss Jamila Ray; and Miss Scholastic, Miss Melondria Osborne, voted by her peers.

What is the Jabberwock?
The word ‘Jabberwock,’ copyrighted by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., was taken from Lewis Carroll’s tale, Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland. In the poem ‘Jabberwocky,’ it was customary for creatures from throughout the kingdom to gather annually to present a gala pageant. The first ‘Jabberwock’ was presented in 1925 in Boston, Massachusetts, by members of Iota Chapter in an effort to find new methods of raising money for their scholarship program.
Jabberwock has evolved over the past 80 years into a diverse program that continues to consist of skits, dances, individual and group talent showcases while advancing the goals and objectives of Delta’s scholarship program.

Special musical performances included: Miss Nicole Robertson performing ‘Good Morning Heartache’; Miss Ashley Doxy performing ‘Listen’; and Miss Mia Black performing ‘Love You I Do.’
Jabberwock is a fundraising activity for scholarships and other public service programs originating as a unique means of raising scholarship funds.
During the Nashville Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter’s six-month Jabberwock season, young ladies had opportunities to participate in a program that did not focus on physical appearance but instead offered an opportunity to present them in a positive manner while learning the value of sisterhood, and service to the community. This experience included interactive workshops that centered on the sorority’s five programmatic thrust.
The NMAC of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on June 28, 1973.
