Edward Kendall, a prominent Nashville attorney and author of A Walk Down Historic Jefferson Street, presented to the Sims family an autographed copy of his recent publication at Zion New Jerusalem Church. As a part of the church’s ministry, families and their ancestors are celebrated and honored. The Sims family’s businesses and employment contributions to Jefferson Street and the Nashville community were graphically reported in Kendall’s unique and valuable portrait of historic Jefferson Street.
Beginning in the 1940s, Sam Sims, Jr. came to Nashville, with his wife, Josephine Hunter Sims, from McMinville, Tenn. He acquired and developed several businesses in the 2600 block of Jefferson Street, where they built the family home. He was one of the most prosperous businessmen of his time, an avid golfer, sportsman, and graduate of Tennessee A&I University, now Tennessee State University, with a degree in mathematics. Sim’s family, shown in the above photograph, continues to serve the Nashville community.
Edward Kendall is one of Nashville’s most prominent attorneys. He has served the Nashville community for more than 25 years as an elected member and chairperson of the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Education. He is a graduate of Tennessee State University and the Nashville School of Law.
