In a spirit of partnership and cooperation, Tennessee State University President Dr. Glenda Glover was the guest of honor at a reception April 30 hosted by Middle Tennessee State University President Dr. Sidney A. McPhee and his wife, Elizabeth.
More than 200 state and local officials, as well as community members attended the reception at the McPhees’ residence on the MTSU campus in Murfreesboro, Tenn., to welcome the new TSU president.
Dr. Glover, who just completed her first 100 days as president of TSU, and her MTSU counterpart, used the opportunity to confirm and praise the partnerships between the two Tennessee Board of Regents institutions.
“As sister institutions, TSU and MTSU both are committed to serving the citizens of Tennessee,” Dr. McPhee said. “President Glover shares my devotion to student success and, together, we will work to support our state’s goal of producing more college graduates.”
Obviously filled with joy to be received “in this special manner” by another university president in the Nashville area, Dr. Glover thanked the MTSU president and his wife for the ‘special welcome,’ and praised the collaboration between their two institutions.
“I will be forever grateful to Middle Tennessee State University President Sidney McPhee and first lady Elizabeth McPhee for opening their home up to not only me, but to the entire Tennessee State University family,” Dr. Glover said. “It is always humbling to meet colleagues who are willing to extend a welcoming hand and lend support. Our professional friendship has truly blossomed and will serve as the catalyst as our two institutions partner to have greater successes in educating students and empowering our respective communities.”
In a brief remark, Murfreesboro Mayor Tommy Bragg said he was pleased to see the presidents of the two nearby universities committed to working together on behalf of students and taxpayers.
Other officials on hand at the reception to receive the new TSU president were TBR Chancellor John Morgan; State Rep. Harold Love, Jr., D-Nashville; and Rep. Mike Sparks, R-Smyrna.
Also present were Dr. Frederick Humphries, former president of TSU, Murfreesboro Vice Mayor Ron Washington, TSU staff and alumni.
