Muscle Shoals Live at David Lipscomb University

The International Black Film Festival of Nashville (IBFFN), the Mid-Town Music Academy (MTMA) and Fame Studios presented a benefit concert “Muscle Shoals Live:  The River That Sings” at David Lipscomb University in Collins Auditorium.  “It was a phenomenal night with great entertainment,” said guests as they heard music from the “river that sings” from artists such as Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Mavis Staples, Clarence Carter, Otis Redding, Little Richard, Art Garfunkel, The Rolling Stones, Candi Staton, Wilson Pickett and the list goes on. The concert featured a spectacular line-up of Muscle Shoals artists and local artists to represent the entertainment from aforementioned artists of “the river.”

The show opened with Gino Speight singing “Land of A Thousand Dances,” “Mustang Sally” and “When a Man Loves A Woman” and continued with Jesse Boyce, coordinator of this musical event; Karla Russell, Angela Primm, Donna Jean McKay, Thomas Cain, Sarina-Joi Crowe, Tabitha and Tony Speight, Mike Farris, Wayne Chaney, Dez Dickerson, G5 & The Gospel Boys, Carla Russell, Candi Staton – all accompanied by the Swampers, known as “The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section.”

The purpose of the concert was to support the Nashville Museum of African American Art.  Visit their facebook page to support their efforts.
