Expressions of faith: Is the Holy Spirit just a guest in part of your life?

Rev. William Watson

We are built so that our spirit hungers for God. We are designed with a great capacity for God, but sin and our own individuality and wrong thinking keep us from getting to Him. God delivers us from sin, but we have to deliver ourselves from our individuality. “If the son makes you free, you shall be free indeed,” John 8:36. The greatest moment in our lives is when we decide that sin must die in us, not simply be restrained or suppressed, but crucified just as Jesus Christ died for the sins of the world. “Our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin,” Romans 6:6.

We should take some time alone with God and make this important decision, saying: “Lord, identify me with your death until I know that sin is dead in me.” Until our independence is ‘broken,’ all the rest is religious fraud. “I have been crucified with Christ,” Galatians 2:20. My individuality remains, but my primary motivation for living and the nature that rules me are radically changed. I have the same human body, but the old satanic right to myself has been destroyed. The resurrection of Jesus is the foundation and the decisive point of the Christian faith. “If we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection,” Romans 6:5. I can have the resurrective life of Jesus Christ here and now, and it will exhibit itself through holiness.

The Holy Spirit cannot be accepted as a guest in part of my life, it must invade my whole body and soul and take charge of everything. My part is to walk in the light and to obey all that the Spirit reveals to me. Let God put the Holiness of His son into your life.

My weekly prayer is that the reader of this commentary becomes spiritually inspired of God.
