Christmas in Zion slated for December 14th

by PRIDE Newsdesk

For most children, Christmas is a time for gifts and presents, but not every child will awake Christmas morning to find toys under a tree.

The members of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, friends and the community have joined in collecting over one thousand toys and clothing items for “Christmas in Zion Toy Drive.” From 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on December 14th, the public is invited to attend the toy drive at Mt. Zion’s Antioch location at 2261 Murfreesboro Pike.  Christmas in Zion will also benefit families of nearly 800 children from homes of military servicemen and women, from homes of disadvantaged children and from homes of incarcerated parents.

“We are grateful that we are able to help provide a merry Christmas to children who may not have had such a joyful holiday,” said coordinators.  For those children, Mt. Zion wishes to make Christmas a little brighter this year.

Wish lists have been collected from 100 children from homes of incarcerated parents and from homes of over 600 children in the Metropolitan Nashville and surrounding communities.

“Christmas In Zion will surely delight the children as they peruse the ‘The Winter Wonderland’ to collect their desired gifts, take pictures with Santa, listen to Christmas stories read by local, familiar personalities and snack on goodies and treats,” said Dyshea Brown.

In partnership with the Tennessee Child Passenger Safety Center, this event will provide free car seat safety checks.

To participate in this safety check, adults should bring the actual car seats along with their children. The local Sheriff’s Department will also be present to make complimentary fingerprint cards for children who attend Christmas In Zion.
