The Young Africans Choir is returning to this area. On December 20, the members of Journey Pointe Church, 1267 Middle Tennessee Blvd. in Murfreesboro, will host ‘Our African Dream,’ featuring the Young Africans Choir at 7 pm.
The Young Africans Choir are a gifted group of singers, musicians and dancers who were all once a part of the world-renowned African Children’s Choir (ACC). As the participants have grown to be now 20-22 year olds, they are poised to fulfill their promise to make a difference in their communities back home.
The ACC is the parent organization to Music For Life (MFL), both of which work in seven African countries such as Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa. MFL has educated over 52,000 children and impacted the lives of over 100,000 people through its relief and development programs. The purpose of MFL is “to help create new leadership for tomorrow’s Africa, by focusing on education.”
“We want to celebrate the achievements and talents of these remarkable young adults, who in the face of adversity, have risen to become the future change makers of Africa,” said organizers of the YAC’s visit.
Throughout the performance, the Young Africans Choir will share various cultural elements from their countries of Kenya and Uganda with a ‘Stomp-inspired’ dance as well as highlighting unique African instruments. Audiences will be inspired and moved as the transformation of once vulnerable children to mature and educated adults unfolds.
The Young Africans performance, ‘Our African Dream,’ tours through February 2014, visiting Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Ohio and Ontario.
The concerts are free to the public. However, a love offering is lifted in order to support programs such as education, care and relief and development programs associated with their organization.
