Robin Roberts will discuss her new memoir Everybody’s Got Something as part of the Salon@615 series at the Nashville Public Library on Friday, June 13 at 6:15 pm. Robin Roberts is the anchor of ABC’s morning show Good Morning America. In 1986, she was sports anchor and reporter for WSMV-TV in Nashville, Tennessee, before moving on to WAGA-TV in Atlanta, Georgia, from 1988 to 1990.

“Regardless of how much money you have, your race, where you live, what religion you follow, you are going through something. Or you already have or you will. As momma always said, ‘Everybody’s got something.’”

So begins beloved Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts’s new memoir in which she recounts the incredible journey that’s been her life so far, and the lessons she’s learned along the way. With grace, heart, and humor, she writes about overcoming breast cancer only to learn five years later that she will need a bone marrow transplant to combat a rare blood disorder, the grief and heartbreak she suffered when her mother passed away, her triumphant return to GMA after her medical leave, and the tremendous support and love of her family and friends that saw her through her difficult times.

Following her mother’s advice to “make your mess your message,” Robin taught a nation of viewers that while it is true that we’ve all got something (a medical crisis to face, aging parents to care for, heartbreak in all its many forms) we’ve also all got something to give: hope, encouragement, a life-saving transplant or a spirit-saving embrace. As Robin has learned, and what readers of her remarkable story will come to believe as well, it’s all about faith, family and friends. And finding out that you are stronger, much stronger, than you think. This event will be open captioned for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Also this season at Salon@615, Emily Giffin, the One & Only is on Monday, June 9 at 6:15 pm. In Giffin’s words, The One & Only is “a story about love and friendship set against the backdrop of Texas football. Think Friday Night Lights meets When Harry Met Sally.” Giffin is the author of six New York Times bestselling novels.

These are ticketed events. A limited number of advance tickets will be available online for a $2.50 service fee per ticket. A limited number of free tickets will be available on-site on the day of the event. It is recommended that you arrive early for the on-site ticket line. Once auditorium seats have been filled, guests will be accommodated in alternative viewing locations in the Library.

Salon@615 is an ongoing partnership between Nashville Public Library, Nashville Public Library Foundation, Parnassus Books and Humanities Tennessee designed to nurture and celebrate the literary life of Nashville by presenting bestselling authors for talks and book signings. Since its inception in early 2011, Salon@615 has become a regular and vital author series on Nashville’s cultural calendar.
