Larenz Tate stars in Gun Hill on BET

The International Black Film Festival Nashville (IBFFN), in collaboration with Black Entertainment Television (BET), presents the “first look” screening of the much anticipated original movie Gun Hill, followed by a conversation with lead actor Larenz Tate, writer/director Reggie Rock Bythewood, BET original programming executive Tamara Gregory, and music supervisor Jabari Ali.

“IBFFN is excited to partner with BET to bring renowned actor Larenz Tate and director Reggie Bythewood to Nashville for the premiere of the original movie Gun Hill. Nashville is making its mark as a viable market for projects such as this. We will continue to help facilitate our city’s interest in quality film and TV projects”, says IBFFN founder Hazel Joyner-Smith.

Writer/director Reggie Rock Bythewood was a writer and supervising producer for the powerful 90’s TV drama New York Undercover. He wrote and directed Biker Boyz and Dancing In September; penned the screenplay for Spike Lee’s Get On the Bus; and co-wrote Notorious.

Actor Larenz Tate, established his celebrity through his compelling and unforgettable roles in blockbusters such as Love Jones, Ray, Menace to Society and Dead Presidents just to name a few.
Gun Hill makes its official television debut on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 9 PM ET/PT; 8 CT on BET.

This high-powered cop drama tells the story of identical twins Bird and Trane Stewart, played brilliantly by Tate. Bird and his identical twin brother, Trane, have always had a complicated, volatile relationship. While law-abiding “good son” Trane was off winning football trophies in high school, Bird was being arrested for ripping off drug dealers. When he and Trane meet up for the first time in 13 years, Bird, fearless, street smart, bulked up and hardened from his years in prison, is shocked to discover he has a son, Dante, whom Trane has been supporting financially.

When Trane is killed under mysterious circumstances, Bird sees a chance to reinvent himself and his life by taking over Trane’s upstanding identity as a member of CCF (Counter Crime Force). At home on the streets, roughing up drug dealers, Bird makes a convincing undercover operative, and he doesn’t want to lose the opportunity, as “Trane”, to forge a relationship with his son and possibly win back his son’s mother, Janelle. But Bird soon learns that his brother’s upstanding lifestyle may not have been altogether on the up and up…

Other cast members include Michael Aranov, Tawny Cypress, Emayataz Corinealdi, Shanti Ashanti, Aisha Hinds, David Cork, James McCaffrey, Hisham Tawfiq, Daniel Stewart, and Cassius Bythewood as Dante.

With music produced by composer Terrence Blanchard and music supervisor Jabari Ali, Gun Hill is laced with powerful, original tracks that compliment the edgy storytelling. The music features artists Antonique Smith, Gene Noble, Yummy Bingham, Shire and Maino.

The event will be held at Regal Cinemas Opry Mills on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. with a mixer featuring special guests following the screening. For more details and to purchase tickets, go to wwww.ibffnashviille.com.
