“Robin, it’s going to be alright.” I have to tell myself this often, because, like you, I get overwhelmed and start to worry and fear and struggle over the possible outcomes of my situation.

What I have learned is that everything will be alright, and that sometimes we have to remind ourselves of this theological truth.

Jesus who was about to endure horrific suffering and death on a cross, comforted his disciples with these words,

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me,” John 14:1. We do not have to live with troubled, worried, fearful hearts, because everything will be alright if we believe. No matter how wrong things go in our lives, if we trust in God and his love for us, we know that after the dust settles, everything will be alright.

We all wish we had a crystal ball. We could look in it, and know the future. We would know exactly how things would turn out in our situations.

The reality is that in this life we do not crystal balls to reveal to us the fate of a relationship, our marriages, our children, our health, our employment status, or any other situation that makes us wonder about the outcome. Things at the beginning are not alright.

If we look at the world, it seems like there is conflict everywhere. If we look at our communities, people are struggling with racism, classism, and sexism in all forms. In our personal lives, things may not be going exactly right. There may be someone on the verge of a divorce, losing a job, feeling lonely, or struggling financially. It seems like nothing is right.
If we are willing to face these problems, and permit God to help us, everything will be alright. If we have faith in God, we know that it is going to be alright.

This reassurance of knowing that everything will be alright will bring us a sense of peace and encouragement. Know that if we just hold on to our faith, we will be okay. Everything will be alright, because God is with us and promised us that everything will be alright. Everything will be alright because God loves us and will make everything alright.

Sometimes we get scared, worry, and fret over what might happen as a result of what we did or did not do or what is happening to us. But if we turn these concerns over to the Lord, he will make everything alright. We can still hear Jesus speaking to us, telling us everything will be alright.

Not only will God bring a peaceful resolve to our circumstances, but he also makes us alright. In spite of our shortcomings, inadequacies, he makes us alright. He forgives us, guides us, and leads us out of situations so that he can protect us and make us alright.

It’s more than feeling that everything is going to be alright; it is a statement of fact. “Robin, everything is going to be alright.”
