Life is filled with many struggles, uncertainties, and disappointments. There are many that we all know who are suffering with illnesses, joblessness, and homelessness. There are some that have endured so much over the years. It seems like it will never go away. The truth is whatever we go through, it will not last. The saying is true: troubles don’t last always.
What encourages me when I am going through a tough spot is to remind myself that ‘this too shall pass.’ Just like the seasons of winter, fall, spring, and summer: troubles, trials, and tribulations have their seasons, and they will move out. If we are willing to keep the faith and trust that God is watching over us during these times, we will be able to testify to someone else going through. This too shall pass!
It’s just not suffering that will go away, but pain and hurt will also pass if we are willing to heal. We are reminded in Psalm 30:5, that weeping may endure for a night, but joy will come in the morning.
David’s words are true. We cannot escape the night. Stuff happens that causes us to cry, but we have the reassurance that joy will come in the morning. The devil will challenge us and will try to overcome us in the night with persuasive talk that says the night will last forever. If we believe the devil, we will never experience the joy that comes in the morning.
Morning time does not necessarily mean that the cancer is gone, or the marriage will stay together, or the love one will come back to life—but it does mean that God will restore our joy and our faith and bring deliverance into our situation. It also means that God will wipe away our tears. This too shall pass.
Recently, a woman recalled how hurt she felt about a situation and the bitterness that tried to rise up in her, but she prayed about it. It no longer has a hold on her. The situation is still present, but it has no authority over her. You can have sunshine on a cloudy day.
When it’s cold outside, you can experience the month of May. What can make us feel this way is the one who brings in the sunshine and has authority over the darkness.
As we go through this journey called life, and we meet bumps in the road, let us not forget—this too shall pass.
