Sports Illustrated brings ‘Swimville’ to Music City

by PRIDE Newsdesk

Sports Illustrated magazine is rolling out its annual Swimsuit Edition in a very special way this year, and Music City, USA will become ‘Swimville’ for a few days next week. Time Inc.’s Sports Illustrated and the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp (NCVC) are partnering to produce two days of exciting fan events and musical performances in celebration of the 2015 SI Swimsuit launch, free each day from 11 am until 5 pm.

“This is an unprecedented opportunity for Nashville to take our message worldwide,” said Ken Levitan, chairman of the board for the NCVC. “We are honored to partner with Sports Illustrated and look forward to showcasing our food, fashion, sports and of course, music.”

The Nashville events are a cornerstone of the 2015 SI Swimsuit launch with the first-ever SI Swimsuit Fan Festivals stopping in both New York City and Nashville. The cross-platform debut in print, digital, mobile and across social media is set for launch in stores nationwide and in New York City, or ‘Swim City,’ on Monday, February 9 and extending there Tuesday, February 10.

Wednesday, February 11 and Thursday, February 12, SI Swimsuit moves south to Nashville with the cast of the 2015 production, highlighted by 20+ models from the 2015 photo shoots, autograph sessions with them, music by various emerging Nashville artists of all genres like Sugar and the Hi-Lows, Rayland Baxter, and The Ettes, interview sessions, and more, including food trucks on Broadway between 3rd & 4th Avenues.

Have your copy of the magazine autographed by the models. The issue’s cover model instantly becomes the face of popular culture each year, joining successful entrepreneurs, entertainment moguls and impresarios like Kathy Ireland, Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, Elle McPherson, Brooklyn Decker and Kate Upton, all of whom had SI Swimsuit as a launching pad to global success.

“Nashville is the perfect city to partner with as we embark on our plan to engage swimsuit fans through bold new consumer events,” said Brendan Ripp, SI publisher. The SI/NCVC partnership brings together a staple of American popular culture with one of America’s great cities in a union of food, fashion, celebrity, sports, travel and, of course, music. SI Swimsuit is known as the ‘Oscars of Swimwear’ because an appearance in the issue is a crowning achievement for swimsuit and accessory manufacturers.

A concert by Music City’s own Kings of Leon is set for the Schermerhorn Symphony Center on Wednesday night; tickets for the concert, with opening artist Mikky Ekko, are on sale through the Symphony box office. The ‘Swimville’ fan experience is free and open to the public, including all of the musical performances (except the Kings of Leon at Schermerhorn) Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 11 and 12, from 11am–5pm each day.

The Travel Channel will air a five-part series SI: The Making of Swimsuit 2015, which debuts Sunday, Feb. 15–Thursday, Feb. 19. And don’t miss the Victoria’s Secret Swimsuit Special on CBS, Thursday, Feb. 26 at 9pm CST.
