After 15 years, seven albums, eight Grammy nominations, and one coveted role as Mahalia Jackson in the Oprah Winfrey produced movie about the life of Martin Luther King, Selma, Ledisi has arrived. It’s been a long road for the New Orleans born and bred jazz recording artist, songwriter and actress.
Last Friday night, March 27, Ledisi graced Nashville with her presence. Her 29-city ‘Intimate Truth Tour’ made a stop at Marathon Music Works. She even brought a couple of friends: Raheem Devaughn and Leela James.
The ‘Truth’ theme for the night was solidified with her song ‘Bravo.’ It’s the same pretty woman with a brand new style. Ledisi has always been adored.
Now, she’s bolder and better.
Ledisi shared her ‘Truth’ performing some of the songs that have earned her an ever-growing legion of fans throughout her career. ‘Higher Than This,’ ‘Stay Together’ (featuring Jaheim) and ‘In the Morning’ were just a few of many hits voiced by hers truly. She had everyone’s attention as she shared her three life truths: 1) Have faith 2) Love yourself 3) Be careful of who and what you allow in your personal circle because not everyone deserves your presence.
After a quick wardrobe change, Ledisi returned to the stage. As she danced, it was clear that she was in love with life and with herself. She mentioned that it had taken some serious trials and serious time for her to reach that point. Certainly worth the price of admission, connecting with her audience was a breeze.
