Nashville Haze by Tiffany Foss is one of the paintings available at the “Cumberland on Canvas” Art Show and Sale at the Bridge Building, April 17 & 18.
The Cumberland River Compact and The Chestnut Group will present the “Cumberland on Canvas” Art Show and Sale at the beautiful Bridge Building, 2 Victory Ave. Ste. 300 Nashville, TN 37213. The show will be held Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, 2015. The hours will be Friday, April 17 from 10am-8pm including a happy hour from 5-7pm and Saturday, April 18 from 10am-5pm. A generous portion of the sale of each painting will directly benefit the Cumberland River Compact’s efforts.
At its spectacular new headquarters in Nashville’s Bridge Building, overlooking the river and the downtown skyline, the Cumberland River Compact continues to expand its work to enhance the health and enjoyment of the Cumberland River and its tributaries through education, collaboration and action.
Working in collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies, farmers, technical professionals, non-profit agencies, neighborhood groups and thousands of volunteers, the Compact’s work encompasses the entire Cumberland River watershed, from its source in Harlan, Kentucky, to its confluence with the Ohio River. Thousands of people have come to the Lucius E. Burch III River Center since it opened in September of 2013. This fulfills a longstanding aspiration to host a destination where stakeholders can convene to discuss water policy issues and to learn more about our precious fresh water resources.
The Chestnut Group is comprised of nearly 200 ‘plein air’ painters from the Middle Tennessee and surrounding region. They have been busy painting new works for the past 9 months preparing for the weekend. The show will feature between 175-200 paintings including a wide range of subjects from all over the Cumberland River Basin, mostly painted in ‘plein air’, meaning painted outdoors in the open.
“The Chestnut Group is a group of painters with a purpose – to help preserve the environment by partnering with organizations that protect it,” says show co-chairperson Jane Coble. “So what better group to benefit, than the Cumberland River Compact, which is doing such an amazing job cleaning up and protecting our wonderful river and all its watersheds.”
The Cumberland River Compact was founded in 1997, and its members have worked to improve the health and enjoyment of the Cumberland River and its tributaries through education, collaboration and action. The Chestnut Group is a nonprofit alliance of landscape artists and friends dedicated to the conservation & preservation of vanishing landscapes in Middle Tennessee. A portion of funds earned from the sale of artwork, inspired by the region’s scenic richness, is made available to organizations that share a common vision: To preserve fragile local environments and historic properties – from threatened habitats and farmland to protected natural areas.
