One of the biggest struggles we deal with as humans is reconciling painful circumstances and other situations that make us cry or even get angry with the character of God.
They range from the death of a love one, watching someone who hurt you get blessed, to the unseen answer of prayers. We probably were admonished never to question God because it amounted to sin, but that is not true.
When we inquire of God, it shows that we have a relationship with God. We are not questioning his authority or the existence of God. We are actually seeking understand. It is all right to make this request of God.
Sometimes we get upset with God, especially when we see innocent people suffer and even succumb to death.
As we seek understanding and experience frustration with God, we must understand that God is sovereign.
Although we cannot see it now, God has purpose in everything. We are encouraged to know that as we live, we will understand it better by and by. Upon inquiry from God about Moses’ call to lead the people of Israel, he heard these words from God: “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion,” Exodus 33:19.
We do not know why God permits some things to happen and not others. This is why it is so important that we learn to trust God. It is easy for us to say that we love God, but it is a lot harder to say that we trust God. When we put our trust in God, we are relinquishing ourselves completely to his will and plan for our lives and the lives and well being of others. Some of us do not believe that we can trust God, yet we put our trust in other people. We trust banks with our money. We trust human beings with our deepest, darkest secrets. We trust people with our bodies. We trust doctors with our health.
We have to know that at the end of the day we must learn to put the same kind and even more trust in God. Trusting God means that whatever happens, we know that it is God’s plan and perfect will for our lives and the building of his Kingdom.
Trusting God means that we know that we can depend upon God. When things happen leading us to make us put our trust in other things or people, we know that God will take care of us. We can depend on God for everything: comfort, healing, deliverance, and restoration.
We may not see it right now because of the many things that are happening in our world that seem unjust, unfair, and inequitable. But we have to keep trusting in the Lord. As we put our trust in the Lord, we will understand it better by and by.
