Donald Glover stars as Rich Purnell in The Martian

Opening This Friday, October 2, THE MARTIAN, starring Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain, features an extraordinary ensemble cast that includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Donald Glover, Kate Mara and Sebastian Stan, Jeff Daniels and others. The film is an epic, 2 hours and 20 minutes, but it is well worth the length. It never drags, and has some amazing cinematographic vistas of the Martian terrain, and the space ships are super cool. I loved Donald Glover’s character and his contribution to the story line is really spectacular. There are some highly nerd-tastic elements of the story that will keep geeks giggling in their seats, but the story and the spectacle are readily accessible to any viewer. Take the kids, but warn them that there is adult language used frequently in context.

Sicario

Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro and Emily Blunt in Sicario

SICARIO opens Oct. 2 also, and stars Emily Blunt and Benicio del Toro. At the border between the United States and Mexico, idealistic FBI Special Weapons and Tactics Teams agent Kate Macer (Emily Blunt) is enlisted by a government official to aid in a joint task force tracking down an anonymous drug lord. Sicario has received critical acclaim from critics. Rotten Tomatoes, approval says,”Led by outstanding work from Emily Blunt and Benicio del Toro, SICARIO is a taut, tightly wound thriller with much more on its mind than attention-getting set pieces.” Dan Jolin from Empire gave the film 5 stars, calling it “a beautifully murky, hard-edged thriller. Quite simply, one of the best films of the year.”
