Nashville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and The Minerva Foundation recently assisted 90 local high school girls with the prom of their dreams. The 6th annual Minerva’s Closet prom dress giveaway was held on March 5 at McGavock High School. The event’s main focus was to empower and uplift young ladies by affording them a complete prom look and eliminating the financial burden on their families. Over 100 girls and their parents were in attendance.

Minerva’s Closet is an annual one-stop-shop event for junior and senior high school girls. An area school cafeteria is transformed into an upscale boutique complete with a wide variety of new or gently used prom dress in every color, style and size, shoes, accessories and makeup. Personal shoppers were on hand to assist the girls with dress selections, seamstresses made alterations for that perfect fit, professional makeup artist offered tips for a flawless face and the live DJ kept the atmosphere upbeat while the girls shopped. All this was free of charge.

This year, Nissan Automotive Manufacturing served as a collection site. Their employees donated numerous items and some even volunteered to work the event.
