June is shaping up to be a fun-tastic month for geeks, as we celebrate Hypericon, Star Trek, Fanboy Expo, and of course, Joss Whedon’s birthday.
Hypericon at Millenium Maxwell House June 17-19
Hypericon is a weekend popular arts conference, festively uniting creators, makers, and performers with those who appreciate and aspire to their craft, committed to promoting the continuation of literacy within the popular arts culture, and connecting enthusiasts of all ages and all genres to the foundations of their fandom. I have been to and enjoyed each and every one since it started in 2005.
Hypericon is organized and operated by an all-vounteer team comprised of those who incorporate the media and culture of the event into their daily lives just like the fans who join in the convention each year.
“We are super excited about this huge leap forward we’re taking with Hypericon,” says branding and marketing spokespeson Lucas Leverett. “Six times the space, higher profile, bigger promotion, and even more folks in our fascinating lineup of guests – it’s our recipe for the next stage of our event’s success. In an age when Nashville’s home-grown offerings are not only appreciated with a refreshed interest, but world-famous, we feel good about the position of a volunteer, fan-run event among the commercial entities who occasionally bring a comic-con through town.”
“Probably the most remarkable thing about Hypericon is our Signature Event lineup! We’re planning some entertaining new programming as well as the reutrn of some old faves!”
A few of those unique diversions are: A Luau; The Goblin King Ball (a David Bowie themed affair); The 189th Annual Worst Opening Line Contest; Art Show (Friday, 4-10pm, Saturday 10am-7pm, Sunday 10am-1pm); and The Hypericon Cosplay Showcase (prize – a $500 shopping spree from Barnes & Noble).
Hypericon guests include Michael Bielaczyc, Glen Cook, Elonka Dunin, Melissa Gay, Conquest Gaming, Cosplay Collective, Cosplay, Inc., Loren Damewood, D.G. Driver, Tommy Hancock, Louise Herring-Jones, Infinite Dreams Gaming, Michelle Nickell, and Bryan Stancliff.
Come out to the Millenium Maxwell House Father’s Day weekend for the time of your life. The full service ConSuite has great food all weekend, included with your weekend membership. For more details and times for events, go their website: http://www.hypericon.net/
