The Urban League Young Professionals of Middle Tennessee presented their 4th annual Advocate. Connect. Empower. (A.C.E.) Leadership Conference November 11-12.
The 2016 Conference kicked off November 11 with the ‘The A.C.E. Affair: Party with Style and GrACE’ at Emma Bistro located at 9 Lea Avenue, Nashville, Tennessee 37210. Young professionals enjoyed sounds by The G2 Experience, dancing and open bar. They even played a game of Hip-Hop charades.
On November 12, the Conference was hosted at Urban League of Middle Tenn. headquarters, 50 Vantage Way, Suite 201, Nashville, Tenn. 37228. After opening remarks by Christiane Buggs, MNPS School Board member, young professionals broke out into two groups. One discussed ‘Finding Purpose in Your Work’ led by Assistant Public Defender Keeda Haynes. The other discussed ‘PTSD in Urban Communities’ led by Dr. Aldorian Chaney, psychiatry resident.
The sessions were followed by a brief lunch and then both groups gathered together to hear the keynote speaker, Ronald Roberts.
Roberts is the managing partner/CEO of DVL Seigenthaler, Nashville’s largest public relations firm. He spoke on the importance of being a good leader by listening, knowing who to appoint to certain tasks, when to use your “Blackness” and being passionate not emotional.
Attendees broke out once again for final sessions: one with new media strategist, Jason Luntz, speaking on ‘Personal Branding’ and the other a panel discussion about ‘Creating the Job that Works for You.’ Members of the panel included J. Renee Jones, Dawana Wade and Darius Montgomery. The panel was moderated by Ashley Gates.
Sponsors for the conference included Bridgestone, Cracker Barrel, and Morgan Stanley.
Free professional headshots were also included in the conference package to help the young professionals boost their professional social media pages.
Urban League Young Professionals of Middle Tennessee (ULYPMT) is the local chapter for the National Urban League volunteer auxiliary that targets young professionals aged 21-40 to empower their communities and change lives through the Urban League Movement. The mission is to support the Urban League Movement through volunteerism, philanthropy and membership development.
