From the first time we saw Sheriff Woody save his town from “One Eyed Bart” to our second journey across the ocean with Dory, Marlin and Nemo, Pixar films have captivated us, along with audiences of all ages, with their incredible animations, relevant (and sometimes hard-hitting) stories, and beautiful scores. Come relive your favorite Pixar adventures while enjoying some after-hours, adults-only fun in Nashville’s iconic Adventure Science Center on Thursday, October 5.

Every few months they open the Center from 6:30 to 10 p.m. to adults-only for a night of science and fun. Each Way Late Play Date has a pop culture theme with specially devised unique cool science activities to take part in around the theme of the evening. All the Science Center’s exhibits are adult-friendly, so if the kids can climb it or slide down it, SO CAN YOU!

Tickets are $35 for not-yet-members and $25 for members and include admission to all exhibits and activities, three beverage tickets (beer, wine and soft drinks), a planetarium show, and a souvenir cup. Please purchase your tickets in advance, as this event usually sells out ahead of time. Tickets are non-refundable, but transferable. 21+ ONLY, and valid photo ID is required at the door. All proceeds support Adventure Science Center’s interactive exhibits and hands-on science experiences.

So, where’s the science? At this Way Late Play Date, they’ll go to infinity… and beyond! to show you some awesome science inspired by these films, and remember… adventure is out there! Here’s how:

SID’S BACKYARD — Tired of playing nice? Visit Sid’s backyard and hack into some toys, creating new mutant playthings. You don’t have to worry about Woody teaching you a lesson, because in this toy story, the toys aren’t alive… right?

CARL & ELLIE’S HOUSE — Grab your Adventure Book… and set a course for Paradise Falls! In this fun engineering challenge, you’ll tie on a fleet of colorful balloons to get things moving UP.

FLIK’S COLONY — Shoo, fly, don’t bother me! Learn all you can about a bug’s life with real live bugs, a bug dissection, and… sweet treats?! Instead of giving Hopper food, let’s make some food out of Hopper.

NEMO’S REEF — Fun isn’t hard to find in Nemo’s colorful reef! Explore the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef while getting hands-on with The Aquarium Restaurant’s live touch tank and seeing some actual ocean artifacts.

WALL-E’S PLANET — Befriend everyone’s favorite robot trash compactor! A lone WALL-E robot trash compactor continued to roam the planet after the humans evacuated and all other robots stopped functioning, but he’s not alone now. Middle Tennessee Robotic Arts Society (MTRAS) will showcase their model WALL-E along with other amazing robotic creations.

Don your best Pixar outfit and enter the Costume Contest with Hypericon in Jack Wood Hall. Judging begins at 9:15 p.m. Enjoy a sampling of tasty snacks with KRAVE, including Popwell, a half-popped, non-gmo, gluten-free, and fair trade popcorn snack. There are special activities with Community Partners throughout the night, and Food Trucks onsite (extra charge): King Tut’s and Steaming Goat.

2018 Way Late Play Date Passports go on sale Oct. 6, and guarantee you admission to all four events next year. In 2017, we enjoyed these Way Late Play Dates: Time Travel (Feb. 2), Marvel vs. DC (April 27), 80s Retro (July 27), and soon, Pixar. The Passport is is a great way to make sure you don’t forget to buy your ticket in time, and miss out when the event sells out.
