Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity celebrates National Founders Day in Music City

Nashville is hosting an international gathering to celebrate 107 years since the founding of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., for their 13th National Founders’ Day. Kappa Alpha Psi ® , a college Fraternity, now comprised of hundreds of functioning Under-graduate and Alumni Chapters on major campuses and in cities throughout the country, is the crystallization of a dream. It is the beautiful realization of a vision shared commonly by the late Revered Founders Elder Watson Diggs; John Milton Lee; Byron Kenneth Armstrong; Guy Levis Grant; Ezra Dee Alexander; Henry Tourner Asher; Marcus Peter Blakemore; Paul Waymond Caine; Edward Giles Irvin and George Wesley Edmonds.

It was the vision of these astute men that enabled them in the school year 1910 – 11, more specifically the night of January 5, 1911, on the campus of Indiana University at Bloomington, Indiana, to sow the seed of a fraternal tree whose fruit is available to, and now enjoyed by, college men everywhere, regardless of their color, religion or national origin. It is a fact of which KAPPA ALPHA PSI ® is justly proud that the Constitution has never contained any clause which either excluded or suggested the exclusion of a man from membership merely because of his color, creed, or national origin. The Constitution of KAPPA ALPHA PSI® is predicated upon, and dedicated to, the principles of achieve-ment through a truly democratic Fraternity.

Chartered and incorporated originally under the laws of the State of Indiana as Kappa Alpha Nu on May 15, 1911, the name was changed to KAPPA ALPHA PSI ® on a resolution offered and adopted at the Grand Chapter in December 1914. This change became effective April 15, 1915, on a proclamation by the then Grand Polemarch, Elder Watson Diggs. Thus, the name acquired a distinctive Greek letter symbol and KAPPA ALPHA PSI ® thereby became a Greek letter Fraternity in every sense of the designation.

“Nupes” from all over the country will converge on Music City, USA in celebration of the founding of their Noble Klan! The host property for National Founders’ Day 2018 is the beautiful Sheraton Music City Hotel. The hotel will be the site of official events throughout the weekend. The event, completely sold out, is hosted by The Middle Tennessee Chapters of the South Central Province, including Kappa Chapter at Meharry Medical College; Nashville Alumni Chapter, Alpha Delta Chapter at Fisk University; Alpha Theta Chapter at Tennessee State University, Eta Gamma Chapter at Middle Tennessee State University; Murfreesboro Alumni Chapter, Nu Rho Chapter at Vanderbilt University, Henderson-ville Alumni Chapter, and Brentwood Alumni Chapter.

Thursday, January 4, the weekend begins with the NFD Kickoff Mixer: Sips & Smokes; with the Hospitality Suite open to registered members. On Friday, January 5, a Grand Board of Directors Meeting will be held, followed by a Welcome to Nashville Reception and a Krimson Nights Live Jazz/Soul Band & Cocktails event for attendees.

Saturday, January 6, the day begins with a Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation Board Meeting; the Foundation does charitable works throughout the nation.

After the meeting, members will enjoy a Kappa Fish Fry & Fellowship at The Nashville Alumni Frat House, concurrent with a Day Party with the Nupes at WKND Hang Suite on Church Street.

The 13th Annual National Founders’ Day Closed Banquet that evening precedes a Hospitality Suite hosted by the Women of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Upsilon Sigma Chapter for Kappas and their guests and the invited Sorors of Sigma Gamma Rho.

An Old School / Nu School Party with “Two Parties, Two Rooms, One Location” will go down at Music City Sheraton from 10pm-Until; Admission: $10.

The weekend concludes on Sunday, January 7, 2018 with an Ecumenical Service at the Music City Sheraton.
