Every few months, Adventure Science Center opens its doors for a night of adults-only (yes, that is 21 and older) fun called Way Late Play Date. It’s all about fundraiser events with different pop culture themes, science, games, and costume fun. From investigating Batman’s incredible helmet to exploring what food might taste like in the apocalypse (candied cockroaches anyone?), each event brings a unique view of science inspired by your favorite franchises. Plus, all of the Science Center’s exhibits are adult-friendly, so if the kids can climb it or slide down it, so can you.
The special theme for the next upcoming iteration of Way Late Play Date is Sherlock vs. Bond. This event will feature two iconic British men of mystery and action, each of whom has a vast literary and filmic following.. Sherlock Holmes, the master detective, and James Bond, MI6 Agent 007, licensed to kill on Her Majesty’s Secret Service. On Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018 the Science Center opens from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Gumshoes unite They’re putting old school detective methods up against new school spy tactics to explore some crime-solving science. Tickets are $35 for not-yet-members and $25 for members and include admission to all exhibits and activities, three beverage tickets, a planetarium show and a souvenir cup.
Special Activities for Way Late Play Date, Sherlock vs. Bond include: THE GAME IS AFOOT, Q’S TECH LAB, COVERT OPERATIONS, HOLY FOLEY! and JEOPARDY – PLANETARIUM SHOW.
Other Activities will provide opportunities for fun as well. Don your best Sherlock trench or Bond suit and enter into the Costume Contest with Hypericon in Jack Wood Hall. Find your ultimate Bond suit by visiting our friends from Haymakers, and enter their gift card giveaway. Make your own souvenir t-shirt with Hip Hues (extra charge). Food Trucks will be onsite to quell yiour hunger at extra charge, inlcuding Hibachi4Hire and Steaming Goat.
Please note the venue’s Costume Weapons Policy, specifically: NO FUNCTIONAL WEAPONS ALLOWED! All costume weapons must be made inoperable. Security will be inspecting at the door and may ask guests with any potentially threatening accessories to return those props to their cars. If you do not want to have your costume weapon inspected, or if you are not willing to comply with this policy, please do not bring your costume weapons to the Way Late Play Date.
Three remaining 2018 Way Late Play Dates are — April 26: Space Jams (90s Sci-Fi) ; July 26: Star Wars vs Star Trek; and October 11: Harry Potter (winner of fan voting – returning theme). These events are for folks 21+, and a valid photo ID is required at the door. Please purchase your tickets in advance, and i can verify after attending for several years now that these events do sell out well in advance, especially Harry Potter and Star Wars vs Star Trek. Tickets are non-refundable, and all proceeds support Adventure Science Center’s interactive exhibits and hands-on science experiences.

Q’S TECH LAB
You know, you’re cleverer than you look. From the power of observation to the technology of Bond, it’s time to step into Q’s research and development lab to design a special gadget to thwart the villain.
COVERT OPERATIONS
007, reporting for duty. Are you feeling flexible? James Bond is known for getting out of tricky situations… and now, it’s your turn. Step into our laser maze to see if you can crack the code without setting off the alarm.
HOLY FOLEY!
The power of suggestion… Clopping coconuts. Smashing cantaloupes. Learn the science behind the special effects that bring film’s most frenzied fisticuffs to life.
JEOPARDY – PLANETARIUM SHOW
I cannot live without brain-work. What else is there to live for? Under the 63-foot Sudekum Planetarium dome, you can put your brain to work as we test your knowledge of the Sherlock Holmes and James Bond franchises. This larger-than-life experience is one you won’t want to miss.
