The Second Missionary Baptist Church’s 2018 Women’s Day was a rousing success, complete with a dynamic speaker and more. This year’s theme was ‘Christina Women Fighting to Save Our Families – Esther 4:16.’

Elder Yevette Russell of the Priest Lake Community Baptist Church preached the sermon. The SMBC Choir and Praise Team and Musicians provided music. Bishop Calvin C. Barlow, Jr., and First Lady Rutha Barlow gave their blessings to the event and the 2018 planning committee.

The order of service began with pastoral remarks from Bishop C. C. Barlow, Jr., followed by the Call to Worship from Min. Swan Holmes. Sister Egypt Barnes delivered a hearty welcome and greeting to the Second Missionary Baptist Church family. After the vision statement was shared, Mother Ruth Smith presented the devotion, song, and scripture with a prayer from Min. Brenda Prime.

Praise and worship continued from the Second Missionary Baptist Church’s Praise Team. Mother Brenda Nance introduced speaker Elder Yevette Russell. After the proclamation of the word, Bishop C.C. Barlow, Jr. offered an open invitation to Christian discipleship and remarks. Announcements were made, and Elder Yevette Russell provided the benediction.

The keynote speaker was Elder Yevette Russell who has been blessed with a solid connection to ministering to the masses for God. She is a native of Nashville. She was educated through the Davidson County Public School System and holds a Doctrine degree from Priest Lake Community Baptist Church. She is a proud mother of two sons, Todd and Marcus, and an equally proud grandmother to six grandchildren who call her ‘Queen.’

Russell is a licensed and ordained minister of the gospel and a faithful member of Priest Lake Community Baptist Church. The church is under the leadership of Rev. Harold J. Felix, Sr. Elder Russell serves in many capacities at her church, including assistant pastor over ‘prayer and healing for the body,’ and assistant pastor over the women and children. Her service to the church and ministries in other capacities encompasses service as a counselor, mentor and insecurity.

She is a staunch woman of God, cherished as a master teacher who will continue to rightfully and clearly divine the word of God. She believes in giving and sharing the truth through the word to God’s people.

“I may die today so I am called to give you the truth,” said Elder Russell. “I am not worried about your feelings, but I am concerned about your soul. “For God does not want us to continue to walk in sin that easily besets us,” Hebrews 12:1.

Elder Russell is a committed woman of God who seeks to do the will of her Heavenly Father. She will leave a lasting imprint in the lives of those she touches through her assignment from the Lord. She is a humble, loving woman that walks the walk (not just talks the talk). This is demonstrated is so many positive ways, including leading by example both as a leader and as a follower to those who teach and preach the word of God.

Second Missionary Baptist Church is open to everyone and all are welcome. The church is located at 1000 Halcyon St. corner of 10th Ave in South Nashville, Tenn. The church is home to SMBC Corporative Ministries, icons of the community and city at large for their service to the people.
