Come help celebrate the entrepreneurs graduating from the 2018 Periscope: Artist Entrepreneur Training course. On Wednesday, September 5, the annual program come to OZ Arts Nashville. You can view the work of all 20 of this year’s participants, while select artist entrepreneurs from the class will take the stage to pitch their creative business concepts. A panel of all-star judges will provide insights along the way, and you, the audience, will have the opportunity to vote for your favorite pitches.

Periscope, now in its fifth year, is an eight-week intensive training opportunity that empowers working artists to see their vision through an entrepreneurial lens. Developed in partnership with the Nashville Entrepreneur Center, Metro Arts, the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development, and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, Periscope is designed to be a transformative experience for each artist, sparking the moment when their career will really start to take off.

The complete 2018 Periscope class consists of Aaron Grayum (visual art), Amanda Lomax (photography/visual art), Amanda Downs (visual art), Audry Deal-McEver (visual art), Cailin Manning (dance and film), Diane Marsella (visual art), Elaine Slayton Akin (mixed media), Georganna Greene (visual art), Jennie Schut (visual art), Jesse Hale (multidisciplinary), Erin Hewgley (jewelry and mixed media), Joseph Patrick (photography), Mark Schlicher (sculpture and film), Melba Williams-Kirk (film), Michael Ewing (visual art), Rashad Rayford (poetry and performance), Regina McCord (film and television), Sarah Shearer (visual art), Stephie G. (music performance) and Thaxton Waters (visual art).

Periscope is an eight-week intensive training opportunity hosted at the Nashville Entrepreneur Center (EC) that empowers working artists to see their vision through an entrepreneurial lens. Led by the EC’s Director of Education, along with break-out sessions facilitated with Nashville’s top arts professionals. Weekly topics include Setting Goals & Making Connections; What’s Your Idea?; Business, Not Hobbies; Framing Your Concept; Building a Compelling Proposition; The Basics of Getting to Market; Getting Believers; Putting It All Together; and the Culminating Event/Pitch.

Periscope, as a total program overall, provides Training: 8 weeks of professional development training for working artists; Exchange: Artists share best practices with interdisciplinary peers through small group work; Mentorship: Each artist is paired one-on-one with a high-caliber mentor; and Exposure: Year-round opportunities to celebrate the work of alumni artists, plus red-letter visibility at the culminating celebration, the Periscope Pitch Event.

The Arts & Business Council leverages and unites the unique resources of the arts and business communities to create a thriving, sustainable creative culture in Nashville and beyond. Your $20 ticket (available on Eventbrite) comes with tasty local treats, libations, and the opportunity to invest in a local artist. All ticket sale proceeds go directly to the artists and three winners will walk away with crowdfunded awards.
