The National Museum of African American Music is scheduled to open at 5th And Broad in Downtown Nashville in early 2020.
The National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM) is very active this Black Music Month. After all, why wouldn’t a museum group dedicated to African American Music not be a key player in the annual celebration of what the museum is all about? The good folks at NMAAM have been keeping it real all month, and won’t slow down ’til it’s over. And then, they will just keep on keepin’ on ’til they open their amazing facility next year, and I suspect they will keep on groovin’ even harder after that! Here’s a look at some of what they have been up to, this week, and what’s yet to come.
NMAAM: Sips & Stanzas – The Marathon Continues: The Role of Hip Hop Culture in Black Leadership was Thursday, June 20 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. NMAAM panelists were to discuss the social significance of hip hop culture and its impact on the African American community.
NMAAM: Emerging Artist Showcase – Friday, June 21 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. NMAAM has partnered with Creatives Day and Make Music Nashville for Make Music Day. Join NMAAM during happy hour at Minerva Avenue, featuring Xandra Lee, Will Davenport, Trisha Alicia, and Jamiah Hudson. 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Minerva Avenue, 1002 Buchanan St. Nashville.
NMAAM: Juneteenth Festival is Saturday, June 22, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at Belle Meade Plantation to celebrate Juneteenth. NMAAM will conduct an FN2S: Spoons workshop and present an emerging artist. This Free event will be at 110 Leake Avenue, Nashville, TN 37205.
NMAAM is promoting LouisYork and the Shindellas performance at the War Memorial Auditorium on Saturday, June 22 at 8:00 pm, 301 6th Ave North Nashville, 37243.
NMAAM: Legends Corner. NMAAM will present Emerging Artist: Bizz & Everyday People on Tuesday, June 25 at 6:00 pm at Legends Corner, 428 Broadway, Nashville. This Free Happy Hour networking event is Open to the Public.
NMAAM: Celebrations of Legends Gala is scheduled for Thursday, June 27 from 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm at the Music City Center, 201 5th Ave South, Nashville, TN 37203. NMAAM’s annual Celebration of Legends gala recognizes iconic artists & genres that have inspired generations of vocalists, musicians, and music enthusiasts. The event is held to benefit the museum’s educational programs and aims to reflect on the impact of African American music across the country; honor the contributions of national legends and trailblazers who have influenced the music business and the sound ofAfrican American music; highlight music legends and how his/her music has impacted music business as well as other artists; acknowledge how the music industry has enhanced the diversity of music and business opportunities globally; and yield national support for NMAAM from business leaders and the music industry.
