Wherefore, holy family, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus (Hebrews 3:1).
Our time on earth is short and uncertain, and our life is serious. It is not to be lived in a careless manner. The Bible specifically lists a number of things we need to consider. As a holy people we ought to consider and give careful attention to our life in Christ Jesus. For example, Haggai 1:7 tells us to consider our ways and Proverbs 4:26 instructs us to ponder the path of our feet. Our direction of travel and our choices will affect our eternal destiny and will bring either bountiful blessings of life and peace, or serious consequences of regret and remorse.
Consider that we reap what we sow. What kind of seed are we sowing? Are we living in the light of eternity, or are we pursuing the world’s temporary pleasures? Have we considered our “latter end” as Deuteronomy 32:29 advises us. Also consider the ravens and the lilies (Luke 12:24). If our Creator feeds the birds of the air and provides the flowers of the field with rain and sunshine, will He not much more care for us? “Seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you,” Matthew 6:33.
Our heavenly Father knows all our needs even before we ask, so why should we worry? Let us wait upon the Lord and trust in Him who hears our cry and can meet every need.
Finally, “consider Him that endured” (Hebrews 12:3). We should give thoughtful contemplation to the example of our Savior, who endured hostility and opposition as He willingly suffered and died for our redemption. Looking unto Jesus, we also can endure by His grace and strength. We need not be overcome with weariness and ‘discouragement,’ no matter what trials we face in this life.
