Metro Nashville and Davidson County Assessor Vivian Wilhoite was administered the oath of office by Mayor John Cooper on August 31 at the Howard Office Building.

The proceedings were broadcast via live stream.

“It’s so valuable to have someone in public office who we all look up to and know, who is doing it for all of the people,” said the mayor. “I am proud to call her my friend and we are grateful to have her in office.”

Assessor Wilhoite begins her second term after tallying the largest number of votes of any countywide candidate in the August 6 General Election.

She was first elected to the office in 2016 as the first African American to hold the position of assessor for Metro Nashville and Davidson County.

In her previous term, Wilhoite’s office conducted over 100 outreach presentations (the most ever done by the office), resulting in the third lowest number of informal appeals files since 2005 and second lowest since 2009.

Wilhoite’s vision for the Assessor’s Office for the coming term is to continue the record setting outreach and further educate the community. She will also continue to work closely with other community organizations.

“We look forward to working with Trustee Erica Gilmore who has already committed to and pledged her highest support in educating property owners,” she said. “We will strengthen our partnership with Mayor Cooper’s administration, the Metro Council, state legislators, NOAH, senior facilities, homeowner associations, churches, and individual property owners.”

Wilhoite thanked her phenomenal staff for “putting up with me” and renewed her commitment to the citizens of Nashville to help them secure and keep their homes.

“Those who know me, know of my work adage: ‘to do all the good I can, in every way that I can, for all the people I can, while I can,’” she said. “Our commitment is to you, as we move forward, and I’m grateful and thankful for the opportunity again.”
