Where is your mountain?

“Then Moses said, I pray that you will let me see you in all of your glory. The Lord answered: All right. I am the Lord, and I show mercy and kindness to anyone I choose. I will let you see my glory and hear my holy name,” Exodus 33:18-19.

God loves to meet with His people. He loves their worship and praise. He wants to hear their prayers and observe their growth in holiness. He seeks to have fellowship with them. In this week’s Bible reading we see Moses’ plea for the presence of God to go with him as he led Israel to Canaan. After God consented to go along, Moses requested something special. He asked to see God’s glory. God responded by inviting him up on the mountain, and there He showed Moses His goodness. Moses’ response was “I will fall on my face in worship to you as Lord.” He saw the holiness of God on Mount Sinai.

Have we done the same? Have we viewed the Lord’s holiness on our own Mount Sinai? In Matthew 17, Jesus took Peter, James, and John into a high mountain and was transfigured before them. There they heard the voice of God commending Christ to them. “While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud said, this is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear him.”

There they received the clear message that Christ was to be heard. It appears that God wanted to impress Christ’s eternal glory and authority upon the disciples. Have you been to the mount of transfiguration? Have you bowed there before the authority of Christ Jesus? Today’s key verse says that the Lord said to Moses “I will let you see my glory and hear my holy name.” The Lord loves the gates of Zion. Mount Zion is where God is a refuge to His people. Have you found refuge in the church of Gid, the city of God called Mount Zion? Have you in that mountain entered into holy worship with the saints of God, and totally experienced God’s kindness and righteousness? God is our God for ever and ever. He will be our guide even to the end of time.
