Expressions of faith: Life church

“Now I say that you are Peter [which means ‘rock’], and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates or the powers of hell will not prevail against it,” Matthew 16:18.

Jesus points out the characteristics of the church by upholding the inerrancy of the scriptures. The church will be God’s original masterpiece that He will build by His spirit without error. First He must set forth the foundation of the church to be a prophetic voice for change not a profitable voice for self gain.

The church must have the prophetic and apostolic anointing of God that will shift the atmosphere where no one leaves the presence of God untouched. We are not just looking at a building as the church, but life. The universal church is the life of the believer not the building. All born again believers should see themselves as the life church.

As life church, there is to be a difference in your life to where others can see that you are fully devoted to God.

  • Your speech (the words you say) spreads life or death. Your mouth can release God’s Kingdom or be a tool for the enemy. Death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21).
  • The way we live in our home, life church is a holy family, where there is righteousness, peace, love, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, self-control, and faithfulness (Galatians 5: 22-23).
  • Our ‘life church’ should be in service and outreach on the job, in the community, and at school. When we lead, others will follow. We are representing God’s authority in the earth, because we submit ourselves under God’s authority (Galatians 6:10).

This is how we’re able to make a difference as a driving force that represents God in everything we do. All of us have been given a ministry assignment that must be fulfilled. This is not the time to abort the call or the assignment of God in our life.

We must change our way of thinking in this season so God can release His will (purpose) in our lives. We must move out of the way so we can allow a demonstration of God’s power. Move away from all evil spirits that have been assigned to you to stop you from being the ‘life church.’ We often fight such a spiritual warfare that we can’t see or think on what God has planned for us. He is the God that delivered you. Man cannot deliver you; only God can.

“The Lord will rescue you from every evil deed and bring you safely into His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen,” 2 Timothy 4:18.

“Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, a Roman city located near the ancient city of Dan, in the northern part of Israel, by Mount Hermon and the Jordan River. Jesus asked His disciples, saying, whom do men say that I the Son of man am?” Matthew 16:13-20.

In this text, the entire focus was on the ministry of Jesus. His ministry was at an all time high. The disciples answered Jesus’ question with these common views:

  • He was one of the great prophets that has come back to life (Deuteronomy 18:18). “I will raise up a prophet from among my people [John the Baptist],” John 1:15.
  • In Mark’s account, it was Elijah, according to 1 Kings 18.

Jesus was not so concerned about what people were saying. He was more concerned about what the disciples would say (Jeremiah 1). In verse 15, “Jesus said unto them, but whom do you say that I am?” The disciples must by this time have been sure that they truly knew who He was. Jesus asked this question weeks before He would be crucified. Jesus had not spoken in clear and direct terms about who He was to this point with His disciples. So the disciples needed to be clear, precise, on point, in control, correct, and accurate in the knowledge of who Jesus was. Jesus had already given them power and authority over all things, so they should have known who He was.

In Matthew 10:1, Jesus called unto him his 12 disciples. He gave them power against unclean spirits—to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. The disciples had no excuse not to know who Jesus was for if they did not get the message of who he was, then His mission would have failed—and they would not be able to comprehend His death upon the cross nor His resurrection.

As ‘life church,’ we must know how Jesus is. A life church is knowing Jesus and the mission he was sent here to do. If you don’t know, you need to ask Jesus to send you back:

Back to a real relationship with Him; back to knowing who He is in you; back to a prayer life; back to real love; back to a real church; back to a love for His word; back to righteous living; back to true repentance with a Godly sorrow; back to true worship and praise. He will send you back so you will know who Christ really is.

Who do you say that Christ is?
