Now through October 10, 2021, the Belcourt Theatre presents Heist!, a 16-film series that includes classics, recent, and unexpected selections from one of cinema’s most loved and pervasive genres. The films span from 1955 to 2019. Included are five 4K films, which will reveal more detail (literally twice as much) than you have ever seen, as most theaters can only project at 2K, the same level as HD or Blu-ray. Tickets are now on sale for all films in the Heist! series, as well as full series passes. Passes are $112 ($80 for Belcourt members) and provide one (1) ticket to each film in the series.

“Every year around this time we attempt to conjure up a fitting way to bid adieu to the dog days of summer,” said Zack Hall, education and programming associate at the Belcourt. “What better way to celebrate the joy of going to the movies again than to bring an amazing collection of films that define and push the boundaries of such a tonally rich genre as the heist film?

The series kicks off this weekend with Jackie Brown, Quentin Tarantino’s classic starring Pam Grier and Samuel L. Jackson, on Friday, September 3 and Monday, September 6. Also of special note are Widows, directed by Steve McQueen, starring Viola Davis and Cynthia Erivo September 15 and 19; and Hustlers, starring Keke Palmer, Lizzo, Cardi B, and J.Lo on September 20.

“There truly is something for everyone here: the first feature from master animator Hayao Miyazaki, Christopher Nolan’s mind-bendingly surreal dreams within dreams within dreams sci-if blockbuster, a story ripped from the headlines that pits sex workers against white collar criminals, a throwback fun-for-the-whole-family song-filled featuring the muppets and our dearly departed Dame Diana Rigg and Charles Grodin, career-defining performances by some of our greatest actors and whizz-bang directing by a handful of impressive filmmakers inspired by the incredible lineage of heist films they grew up watching.”
