In a recent closed-door event featuring Gov. Bill Lee and Hillsdale College President Dr. Larry Arnn, public school teachers were under attack. Dr. Arnn made numerous egregious comments including:

“The teachers are trained in the dumbest parts of the dumbest colleges in the country.

“Here’s a key thing that we’re going to try to do. We are going to try to demonstrate that you don’t have to be an expert to educate a child because basically anybody can do it.”

Gov. Lee did absolutely nothing to defend the teachers of Tennessee and has done nothing since the event to condemn the comments made by Dr. Arnn. Gov. Lee is still pursuing his plan to bring Hillsdale Charter Schools to Tennessee.

The Tennessee Democratic Party stands with teachers and values them. The political party demands that Gov. Lee end any business relationship between Hillsdale College and the state of Tennessee. They have also called on the governor to denounce the remarks made by Dr. Arnn.

“This is a new low for the governor and proves to us once again that he needs to be replaced in November. He has repeatedly abandoned our teachers and is attempting to dismantle our educational system,” said Hendrell Remus, TNDP chair.
