Do you recall ever having to completely shut down and stop doing what you always do—being instructed to exactly do what you cannot do? Of course you do! It was in March of 2020 when the entire ‘world’ was shut down due to a pandemic. No one knew what to expect, for how long or even what ‘shutting down’ really meant. We stopped moving about freely as we always had. We stopped driving. We stopped visiting. We stopped going to work unless we were considered essential. We simply stopped living life, as we had known it.
Rev. Enoch Fuzz, the pastor of Corinthian MB Church, had surgery to remove polyps from his vocal cords last week. He was told to go on ‘vocal rest,’ meaning he cannot talk, whisper, of course no singing, or to do any speaking of any kind for the following two weeks.
Rev. Fuzz has already had to change so much of his lifestyle due to his diagnosis of stage four lung cancer over two years ago. Speaking has always been a major part of his lifestyle. He is a gifted speaker and still used that ability even during his journey with cancer. But he as told to speak no words. Not using his voice seems quite unimaginable.
The things he has had to endure during his bout with cancer are completely amazing, but Rev. Fuzz knows God and follows God’s instructions. Sometimes we have to simply be still. When we are still, we hear God’s commands.
We are often asked to do things we feel we cannot accomplish. Yet, we can.
Rev. Fuzz always listens to his doctors. It was a doctor who noticed Fuzz’s situation and has advocated for him since the beginning of his journey. Many today ‘wanna act like doctors’ and have given Rev. Fuzz well-intended advice. But he follows his doctor’s orders. It’s just natural that people offer advice, suggestions and remedies. But when you have a real doctor’s order, it is best to follow those instructions.
The doctor can heal you just as noted in the Bible. God can heal the land. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall in the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and form and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The Lord almighty is with us;the God of Jacob is our fortress. Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’ The Lord almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress,” Psalm 46.
We can trust things to be fine just as the scriptures and the doctors suggest.
While you’re praying, think about what you may need to do to improve your health. If it’s something that you’re thinking you cannot do—know that you can. Rev. Fuzz was instructed to silence himself; he is doing so. He is resting and relaxing and able to be quiet and heal.
Many thanks for your prayers. Rev. Fuzz is always in continuous prayer for you as well. Check out his Facebook site as he gives praise through God’s word, songs (but no songs these days) and pictures. You will be blessed. Thanks for reading and sharing ‘Cancer: My Journey in Time’ each week. May it be a blessing to you.
