When a baby is born into this world, it is as if they had been awakened from a long sleep. True, they do a lot of sleeping, and much of that is rest.
The body does rest when you’re asleep. But there is a difference between sleep and rest.
Rest and sleep are very important for good health and well-being. To rest is to cease activity in order to relax, recover and renew oneself for strength, health, and energy. Sleep is a deeper state of rest where the eyes are closed and the mind is in an altered state while consciousness of surroundings are practically suspended and the body muscles are relaxed. But why are we talking about rest and sleep?
Since Rev. Enoch Fuzz, pastor of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, first received a diagnosis of stage four lung cancer, both sleep and rest have been important to his healing as it is to everyday life. As someone who has a heavy schedule of activities, Rev. Fuzz has learned to appreciate the benefits of rest and sleep. While he complained a lot of having to rest when he wanted to do more than his body would allow, he has learned that sleep is certainly a necessity to a clear, sharp mind and rejuvenation of a tired body.
A newborn baby sleeps a lot during its first weeks. That’s when its mind and body is developing.
As stated, rest and sleep renew. One should appreciate taking time to simply relax. You may want to shut down your normal activities and have a special treat with a relaxing drink. We sleep every day. However, true rest often has to be intentional. And if we took resting a step further, every now and then, take an allotted time for rest from cell phones and other electronic devices. (But, that’s a whole different story for another time!) Rest is better when the mind is rested as well as the body.
Continue to pray, knowing that sometimes you have to pray for the ability to get good rest. But it’s sometimes difficult to shut down and get rest.
Rev. Fuzz prays for you and the world while he continues in prayer for a complete healing. Be sure to check out his Facebook site where you will find him praising in song, the word, or through testimony. Thanks for reading and sharing his journey each week.
