House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Thursday what her future will look like, a day after Republicans claimed a majority in the House in the next congressional term.
Pelosi decided to step aside as the Democratic leader and let others lead.
“I will not seek re-election to Democratic leadership in the next Congress,” said Pelosi.
“For me, the hour has come for a new generation to lead the Democratic caucus that I so deeply respect, and I’m grateful that so many are ready and willing to shoulder this awesome responsibility,”
It comes after her party was able to halt an expected Republican wave in the House and Senate in midterm elections, but also in the aftermath of a brutal attack on her husband, Paul, last month in their San Francisco home.
