“And Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither has this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of Him (God) that has sent me, while it is day: the night is coming, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world,” John 9:1-5.
In today’s text Jesus takes the time to teach His disciples about faith and glorifying God. To have faith in God is to go beyond the impossible. This is called faith and beyond.
When you walk by faith you have complete trust and confidence in God that He is going to do and work things out in your life. This gives you the evidence and the assurance of things hoped for, the confidence of things not seen. When you have faith, you trust in the will of God very strongly and you believe. This is more than a wish, it’s having God and His word rooted deeply in your mind, heart, and soul.
“Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him,” Hebrews 11:6.
Look at this blind man and his life in today’s reading—one that cannot see who was born this way from birth. Jesus sees this man who is blind along with His disciples. The disciples ask Him: ‘Master, who sinned, this man or his parents?’ You word think that Jesus would want to lay low, because He was just in the temple teaching the Jewish people, saying He was sent of God—the one that was before Abraham and the prophets. They wanted to stone Him, but Jesus hid himself out of the temple.
He sees this blind man in passing, and Jesus keeps on doing what He was sent to do. No one sinned, neither this man or his parents. This is the doing of the Lord God, that the works of God should be made manifest in him. In Jewish culture, if a person is suffering it’s the result of some great sin. But Jesus uses this man’s suffering to teach about having faith in God and glorying God for the great things He has done and what He is doings in your life right now.
It is for the glory of God that the works of God should be made manifest in this blind man.
What is the ‘manifestation of God’? The Manifestation of God or the Spirit of God is the faith we have in Him as we seek God’s will for our situation. We place our trust in Him above all things, above all understanding. We declare God’s abundance over our life. This is the work of the Holy Spirit, the Divine Spirit that’s living in us. We are born of God, and we should follow His leading daily for a finished work.
“For I must do a finished work in you. That is the work of Him (God the Father) that sent me (Jesus), while it is day. The night comes when no man can work. I have the power to help you in whatever situation you are in. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world and the healing power of God is with me for you.”
When God is doing a work in your life, it is for the glory of God for the world to see.
