So, Knowledge is that point in which “the whole world is turned upside down”. Knowledge is that point when “more importantly, the relations between things are seen for the first time”. The change in the person or people is a coming alive whereas “struggle emerges as the way of life”; —never to be the same again. I was listening this week to persons calling in to the D.L. Hughley Show while driving; responding to the question of what it means to be ‘woke’? ‘Staying Woke’ comes with “an appetite awakened that can never be satisfied.”
This ‘Mis-Education of The Negro’ extends itself to the oppressive forces that continue it’s work through Legislation. While we are consumed with ‘Justice’, they are consumed with an American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). Now billed as what Wiki defines as a ‘religion’, (my bad), a “nonprofit’ organization of conservative state legislators and private sector representatives who draft and share model legislation for distribution among state governments in the United States”. While many are just joining the ‘Critical Race Theory’ dialogue in Florida where this Legislation has been given a name and a face; Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa and Idaho as of 2021 have already ‘Passed and Signed’ this Bill into Law. “Education is Legislation”. That part.
Ruby Bridges was born in Tylertown, Mississippi, the same year as the passing of the infamous ‘Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka’. By the time she was of age to enter the public schools, her family had moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where her destiny began. She was tested, chosen and requested by the NAACP to become one of Six Black Children to integrate the all white William Frantz Elementary School. After two families refused and the “McDonough Three” (known for having transferred to McDonough, another all white school), Ruby is a ‘Lone Black Child’ —seen in the extent of our ‘critical race TRUTH’ Photo and the immortal Norman Rockwell Print of Three U. S. Marshals sent by the President to escort her to and from school each day. Knowledge takes over in knowing that the entire faculty of Frantz School refused to teach her with the exception of one Teacher, Mrs. Henry, who taught her daily as a single child classroom.
This ‘Mis-Education of The Negro’ extends to include a Psychologist who, at a time when any six year old child in America is at the “everything I know I learned in Kindergarten” and First Grade —perhaps THE most ‘Critical Education’ development stages, Dr. Cole was appointed a time each week to… go inside her head. At a time when education is learning to read, and to write and to do… well, you do the arithmetic on this education. “Knowledge is Biblical. Education is not.” (Me). “Education is Legislation.” (Me, again)… just daring to go where no one else is… willing!
“As another has well said, to handicap a student by teaching him that his black face is a curse and that his struggle to change his condition is hopeless is the worst sort of lynching. It kills one’s aspirations and dooms him to vagabondage and crime. It is strange, then, that the friends of truth and the promoters of freedom have not risen up against the present propaganda in the schools and crushed it. This crusade is much more important than the anti-lynching movement, because there would be no lynching if it did not start in the schoolroom. Why not exploit, enslave, or exterminate a class that everybody is taught to regard as inferior?” (Carter Godwin Woodson).
Knowledge? “more importantly, the relations between things are seen for the first time”. (Howard Thurman).
