TPAC continues presenting amazing programming during Black History Month. In addition to the Ballet and Dance events covered elsewhere, TPAC is hosting “your personal astrophysicist,” the globally reknowned scientist Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, and the touring production of the acclaimed Broadway musical about the legendary Tina Turner.

Astrophysicist and author Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson brings his lecture “The Cosmic Perspective” to TPAC on Monday, February 26th. There is no view of the world as emotionally potent as the one granted by a cosmic perspective. It’s one that sees Earth as a planet in a vast empty universe. It profoundly influences what we think and feel about science, culture, politics, and life itself. This talk updates continually due to the rapid pace of scientific discovery and looks nothing like the talk offered five years ago.

Neil deGrasse Tyson was born and raised in New York City, educated in public schools through graduation from Bronx High School of Science. Tyson earned his BA in Physics from Harvard and his PhD in Astrophysics from Columbia. Tyson, the fifth head of the world-renowned Hayden Planetarium in New York City and the first occupant of its Frederick P. Rose Directorship, is also a research associate of the Department of Astrophysics at the American Museum of Natural History.

Tyson is the recipient of 23 honorary doctorates and the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal, the highest award given by NASA to a non-government citizen. His contributions to the public appreciation of the cosmos have been recognized by the International Astronomical Union in their official naming of asteroid “13123 Tyson.” Tyson was voted “Sexiest Astrophysicist Alive” by People Magazine in 2000.

In addition to dozens of professional publications, Dr. Tyson has written, and continues to write for the public, including over 15 books, most of which are New York Times bestsellers. Tyson was on-camera host for The PBS NOVA four-part mini-series Origins; PBS NOVA ScienceNOW; Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey; and Cosmos: Possible Worlds. His popular Podcast StarTalk, begun as a TV series on the National Geographic Channel, combines celebrity guests with informative yet playful banter, targeting people who never thought they would, or could, like science.

A limited number of VIP Tickets are available for his talk, and include best available seating, signed poster and post show meet & greet with photo opportunity.
